THz spectroscopy of liquid crystals

Abstract

FTIR technique was employed to study two liquid crystals of the BA class. The THz transmission spectra of the two compounds are characterized by distinct absorption bands. 4-hexylbenzoic acid is characterized by 7 absorption bands while 4-octyloxybenzoic acid has 11 absorption bands. Despite the similarities in the molecular structures of these compounds, there are profound differences in their spectra.
