Abstract
In this paper, the modeling and the simulation for ammonia regeneration process from soda ash production (Solvay technology) have been described. The aqueous solution resulted in the process of sodium bicarbonate synthesis (carbonation process of ammoniacal brine) is treated with calcium hydroxide (lime) solution in order to recover the ammonia that is recycled to the absorption process in sodium chloride solution (brine). Computer Aided Design (CAD) software packages, among which ChemCAD is very often used, are new tools for chemical process analysis and design, having advantages versus the traditional ways of design. The mathematical model of the ammonia regeneration process was simulated using ChemCAD software package. The simulation results were compared with data collected from real plant operation in order to validate the application developed for the process. From the simulation results very valuable information can be obtained regarding real plant operation and improving the process yield.
