N2 - Preventive and corrective measures regarding water quality are very important for the effective management of the river water quality. Such measures need to rely on correct predictions of pollutant distribution. For that reason, the present paper presents: (1) the correlation of pollutant transport to multiple aspects (e.g. river characteristics, hydrodynamics, pollutant characteristics and properties of the releasing source) and (2) the development of the simulation tool (based on the Matlab numerical mathematical model for pollutant transport in the Someş River). Findings in the paper are important not only for their applicability but also due to the presented approach. They address: (1) the concern of minimizing the field effort during model development, (2) a different way to solve ADE compared to existing studies on the Somes River and (3) a comprehensive picture on the phenomena or classes of parameters, which in water quality studies are generally treated as separated and not integrated in comprehensive analyses.
